Project Description
JUWI plans to start the construction of three major private solar PV projects in 2025, totalling 340 MW.The projects will serve key players in the mining, data centre and energy sectors. Collectively, they will generate more than one-million megawatt-hours of clean energy a year, enough to power about 200 000 South African households, and offset nearly one-million tonnes of CO2 emissions a year. The projects will also add about 5% to the country’s total solar PV capacity.  The projects include:

  • a 120 MW solar PV facility for data centre company Teraco Data Centres, supplying multiple locations through wheeling innovation from a generation site, in the Free State;
  • a 120 MW solar PV facility for global chemicals and energy company Sasol and French multinational Air Liquide, in partnership with independent power producers TotalEnergies, Mulilo and Reatile Group; and
  • a 100 MW solar PV facility for diversified natural resource company Glencore, providing clean energy for its ferrochrome smelters in partnership with Pele Green Energy.

Potential Job Creation
The projects are expected to create more than 2 000 jobs during the construction phase.

Capital Expenditure
The combined investment for these projects is more than R6-billion.

Planned Start/End Date
Construction is planned to start in 2025. Specific completion dates have not been disclosed.
